Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought interest back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish generally, and four songs in the year 2016. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito came out in the year 2017. After that, some of the most pop stars began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated with Maluma in the creation of Medellin. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at their genre's shift towards the mainstream, but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other forms.
